"Good Deeds" App Takes Top Prize in the District

Good Deeds App Winner

Code Hero Academy student Esha Sekar developed an app addressing a real problem she witnessed. When a family friend fell seriously ill, coordinating support among relatives and friends proved chaotic, with miscommunications and forgotten tasks creating confusion.

The Solution

Esha's solution—the "Good Deeds" application—streamlines this process. The platform allows individuals needing assistance to post task lists accessible to their support network. Family and friends can claim responsibilities, request help, and communicate scheduling concerns within the app, reducing confusion and ensuring tasks get completed efficiently.

The Journey

The innovative approach impressed judges at the annual Congressional App Challenge. Working under pressure between September and November's deadline, Esha developed her concept using Thunkable with Code Hero Academy staff support.

She navigated technical obstacles including layout issues, external link problems, and demo functionality challenges, ultimately submitting her entry on October 31st.

The Win

Her efforts earned first prize in Minnesota's 2nd District. Representative Angie Craig visited the academy to celebrate her achievement.

Looking Forward

Esha plans to expand the application through official app stores while continuing her studies at Code Hero Academy, focusing on Python, robotics, and website development.

"Esha's story shows what's possible when students apply their coding skills to real-world problems they care about."
